Everyone’s talking about the Legacy 1.2 Patch. And who’s to blame you for that? It’s exciting stuff! But before everything else gets lost to the wayside, let’s start talking about a few things you really can’t miss out on from last week’s Dev Posts and the Weekly Q&A.
Need to know about your last chance at a white power crystal? Want to know exactly how crafting changes impacts what you can make in 1.2? Interested in the SWTOR Dev Team plan for future content releases? Click that Continue Reading Button!
White Crystals go the way of the Dodo
Georg Zoeller: There will be no way to obtain white color crystals in Game Update 1.2… However, should a white color crystal be made available at a later time, you can be certain that the mode of acquiring it will be significantly more involved than going to a vendor.
If you dig your lightsaber looking like a fluorescent ceiling light then you need to pick one of these up soon because they won’t be around for much longer. Whether you see this as a prestige or vanity item, this will be your last chance for some time. And it won’t ever be this easy to attain again.
Crafting – What you *HAVE* to know!
Georg Zoeller: The majority of Game Update 1.2 crafting content will seamlessly integrate with the existing system, meaning they will make use of existing endgame materials. The newly craftable augments will use new materials supplied by Slicing missions, while the newly created PvP crystals will use new materials bought by PvP commendations. We did add additional nodes for high-end materials to the daily areas and changed some of the operations materials to be Bind on Equip….
A lot of players have missed this, so it’s important that you understand that the Tier 2 gear will be craftable with the currently existing materials in game. This also means that those high end materials from Operations such as Alien Data Cubes will become BoE (no longer BoP) and be required to make some of these new items.
As Biometric Crystal Alloys are used to currently craft T1 gear (Rakata), the Operations crafting materials (Alien Data Cubes for example) will most likely be required for the T2 gear (patch 1.2 Ops).
Legacy Unlock Costs
Georg Zoeller: The system allows you to unlock things EITHER via achieving the unlock condition (e.g. reaching chapter 2 in a specific class, reaching a specific PvP rank, etc) OR by paying credits. It is not both.
A lot of confusion has abounded with the cost for unlocking Legacy abilities. For example, the Black Market Trade Terminal is unlockable with either 5 million credits or legacy level 35. Note the “or”, because you don’t have to meet both requirements. Just one will do.
SWTOR Resource Allocations Explained
Georg Zoeller: But we tend to pair a relatively smaller number of those big features with a lot of these smaller feature additions, because that sort of approach seems to offer us the largest bang for the buck.
It’s not too often that Devs will sit down to explain exactly how they prioritize their resources, so it’s always wise to pay attention when they do. Georg made it exceedingly clear that model for SWTOR content patches will push through a few major changes that have sweeping effects, and then bundle in a ton of minor changes as well.
Also in a previous Dev post someone at BioWare stated that they would like the patch cycles between major content patches to be more frequent than the disparity between 1.1 and 1.2 release. So at roughly a 2 1/2 to 3 month span, it seems that their goal will be to release content patches roughly every 2 months which is very close to Trion’s cycle with Rift.
